13th Forum of National Ethics Councils

Under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the 13th Forum of National Ethics Councils (NEC Forum) was held in Prague at the Prague Congress Centre on the 4th and 5th of June 2009. The Forum was organised by the European Commission and the Czech Bioethical Commission of the Research and Development Council.

The 13th Forum of National Ethics Councils started on the 4th of June at 9:30 with a joint session of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies (EGE) and the Forum of National Ethics Councils. The topic of this joint session was Neuroethics. Other topics that was addressed at the remainder of the Forum meeting were genetic testing and biometrics.

The Forum of National Ethics Councils consists of the chairpersons and the secretaries of the National Ethics Councils. It is an independent informal platform for exchange of information and meets twice a year, hosted by the National Ethics Council of the country that holds the current EU Presidency. The Forum is developing an important role in exchanging good practices between Member States.
